Why is conservation important?
Conservation
Importance
“Earth provides enough to satisfy every man's needs, but not every man's greed.”
Mahatma Gandhi
Conservation is important. You may think it is overstated and overemphasized, but it is not at all. Back when Earth was new, our entire world was different. The first thing that probably comes to mind is that there was no technology back then. No IPhones, no Xbox or anything. But imagine the different plants and animals that were there. Yes, there were the dinosaurs, wooly mammoths, and saber tooth tigers but there were plenty of other extinct animals that fossils have not been discovered yet. Many people think that the Industrial Age was the start of our human destruction, and that is true. But before then, nature was mainly the cause of the early extinct animals and plants. Now, humans are. We have started to take advantage of our resources, and with increasing technology we seek even more than we have. Overpopulation and poverty does not help our constant need for food and water. Of course, natural storms and weather constantly beats against us too. But ultimately, money is the object. It is what humans constantly seek. We are never satisfied with the money we have, we want more. This is why we do what we do. We destroy what is around us.
We Can't Survive Without Nature
But why is conserving what we have around us important? Everyone has their own opinion about this matter. But, nature is important. On a practical note, we can't survive without it. Whether you like nature or not, every single process nature performs for us is essential. Everyone really doesn't like bees. They sting you. But they pollinate flowers, and plants. If we didn't have bees, we wouldn't have fruits and vegetables. It's a process of nature. This is one of the many things nature does for us. Nature gives us fresh water, grows our trees for us, and controls insects and pests for us. Nature supplies us with everything we need. If the government and technology tried to complete the processes nature does for us, it would be an estimated 33 trillion dollars spent. If we tried, we could live purely off of nature, yes without all of the technology we have. We actually can survive without it. If we keep destroying and taking over all this land and keep destroying animal's habitats, we will be left with nothing. We can not survive without using any source of nature.
Imagine A World Without Nature
On a more emotional note, we live surrounded by nature. Your backyard? That's nature. Who wants to live in a world without nature? As much as we sometimes want to cut down the trees in our backyard so we don't have to rake leaves, we would hate this world. No nature means no grass, no flowers, and especially no mountains. Plus, destroying nature means destroying animal habitats. Without a habitat, animals will die. They can not adapt to a grassless world. Even if it seems impossible that our nature could actually be destroyed, it can. It may be over hundreds or thousand of years but it will happen if we keep acting recklessly like this. Help protect our environment!
